Helen is the author of Faith and Feminism: A Holy Alliance. She also wrote And the Spirit Moved Them, The Lost Radical History of America’s First Feminists, which documents the inspiring story of the abolitionist feminists. Given her great interest in psychology, she has co-authored several books on Imago Therapy with her partner, Harville Hendrix.
In 2004, Helen completed a Doctoral degree at Union Theological Seminary in New York City, where she further explored how theology or a spiritual perspective has fueled the work of women’s activism. Helen’s doctorate built on her past academic studies, which include three degrees from Southern Methodist University: a B.A. in Secondary Education, an M.L.A. in Liberal Arts, and an M.A. in Counseling, along with an honorary Ph.D. from the Chicago Theological Seminary.
Helen and Harville co-founded Quantum Connections, LLC, formerly Safe Conversations, LLC. This organization has a Dialogue training institute that teaches Safe Conversations, a Dialogue process that helps people shift from conflict to connection. Helen believes Safe Conversations Dialogue can contribute to what the global feminist community has fought for a more relational world with more gender and racial equity. Harville and Helen invite everyone to learn to practice the S.C. Dialogue skills in all their relationships so they may experience more connected relationships, which will ultimately bring greater safety, connected, & peaceful relationships throughout the world.
Harville and Helen have been married for more than 40 years. They have six children and eight grandchildren and reside in Dallas, Texas.
